Managing Director

Jay Canell is a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager at J.P. Morgan Securities, a wealth management division of J.P. Morgan. Prior to joining the firm, he was a Managing Director and Chairman's Council member at Morgan Stanley.  Jay is experienced in all equity investments with areas of focus that include portfolio analysis, structured products and mutual fund diversification. Additionally, he provides credit access to The Canell Group clients through lending, mortgages, HELOCs and other credit line strategies.  He coordinates and manages the Group’s referral relationships with various trusted advisors, such as attorneys, sports agents, entertainment industry executives and CPAs.

Jay received his B.A. from Lehigh University in 1989 and is Series 7, 31, 63 and 65 registered and Life Insurance licensed. The Canell Group has been recognized by Research Magazine’s Top-Ranked Advisor Teams in America (The Winner’s Circle 2008). In 2009 and 2010, Jay was honored as the 92nd and 94th ranked Financial Advisor respectively in the United States (Barron’s Top 100 Advisors). Additionally, in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013, Jay was chosen as the 29th, 34th, 39th, 45th and 69th ranked Financial Advisor respectively in New York (Barron’s Top 1000 Advisors). In 2015, 2016 and 2017, Jay was chosen as the 83rd, 74th and 52nd ranked Financial Advisor respectively in New York (Barron’s Top 1200 Advisors). Recently, he has also been honored as an inaugural member of the Financial Times Top 400 Advisors for 2013, 2016 and 2017, as well as for New York Magazine’s Top Wealth Managers in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. Finally, Jay was honored in 2016 as one of Forbes America’s Top Wealth Advisors, being selected as the 158th ranked Financial Advisor in the Country on their inaugural list.

Jay resides in Scarsdale with his wife, Sari, and their two children, Hayley and Dylan. He is currently a founding board member of Summer Camp Opportunities to Promote Education (SCOPE.), a nonprofit organization that sends less fortunate children to summer camp.  He is also a board member on the Investment Committee of the Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, New York. Additionally, Jay serves on the boards of The Riley Sandler Foundation, The Pediatric Cancer Foundation, The Athletes vs. Crohn’s & Colitis Organization and is a member of the Board of Governors as well as the current Membership Chairman of Willow Ridge Country Club.
